Haiti
Like everyone else I am stunned by what happened in Haiti. We have more than what we need in this country. They have trouble in good times, but this is almost more than I can bear to watch on T.V.
I am going to send some money to the Red Cross and Habitat.
The links are as follows:

Say some prayers too.

Unimaginable horror in Haiti. As you say, Doctor B., it is hard to watch. Donations are certainly needed, even in hard economic times in this country.
According to the State Department, you may also donate $10 to the Red Cross International Response Fund by texting the word “HAITI” to number 90999. The donation will be added to your cell phone bill. On the morning news show where I saw this information, they said that over $800K had already been donated in this way.
As old John Donne, a considerable writer, said:
Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to ask for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Good for you, doc; these people are in a world of hurt. Ann and I sent our money to Partners in Health (http://pih.org/home.html), the outfit that Tracy Kidder wrote about in “Mountains Beyond Mountains”. Earlier today I told someone we’d done that, and his reply was, “Whatcha do that for? They never done nothing for us.” I guess the dark side of our nature comes out every now and then!

Guys,
Thanks for all these fine comments. It is indeed an unspeakable tragedy.
Bob C., The comment of your acquaintance reminds me of the fellow who was unconcerned because his side of the boat wasn’t leaking.

Hi Dr B
I felt the same way – Haiti is a country in crisis all the time. I’m focusing all my spiritual energy on that part of the world today.
