Book Tour Schedule

This page is to keep you up to date on my whereabouts. I’m not hard to find. During the week I do prostate exams in the office, and on my weekends off I play music. My wife and I plan about a dozen or so book signings a year. Most will be at festivals, but we also plan to do some book store gigs.

So, I’d recommend you get a prostate exam once a year (and you ladies can skip that) but not at a gig. I have to take medicine seriously, and I do. But with my book I’m gonna have fun. I take writing seriously, but don’t take myself that way at all. I’m just a country doctor and art is my whiskey to help me deal with all the bad things I see. As they say in bluegrass, music ain’t a matter of life and death; it’s a whole lot more important than that.

Here’s where I’ll be. I’m at the age where a lot of folks sit down and give up, but I gotta keep on the move. My wife and I view our “tour” as one big excuse to take in festivals and meet new people. We hope to sell enough books to break even. Several more outings are in the works and I’ll post them when the dates firm up.

Tour and Book Signings 2010

Wedneday, Oct 13. West Henderson High School. I’ll be here to to talk to the kids about writing and music, and then at a jam session with English teacher Cliff Searcy and his school bluegrass group. After that we’ll be at Tempo Music 4:30 – 5:45… then on to WHKP to be on Charles Hayes’ Grass Roots show around 6 pm

Sept 27 – Oct. 3, 2010. IBMA World of Bluegrass, Nashville, Tn. I’ll be at the IBMA all week (both the biz conference and FanFest) with “The Mandolin Case.” If you ever wanted to go the doctor, have him sit on the porch and prop up his feet, answer all your questions and not rush you, and then play you a tune on the mandolin, I’m your guy.

August 25 2010. (Wednesday) Several stops for this day.

10:00 AM WSPA Channel 7. TV spot with bluegrass guests.

2:00 Fiction Addiction Book Store signing. (Also a few songs)
website: http://www.fiction-addiction.com

5:00 Horizon Records. Book signing and bluegrass picking with special guests as schedule allows. website:  www.horizonrecords.net

August 7, 2010. (Saturday) I’ll be a face in the crowd but wouldn’t miss Darin and Brook Aldridge’s show at the Sylvia theater in Rock Hill, S.C. I’m not a formal vendor here but will have books available. Details are on their website: www.darinandbroookealdridge.com

August 11, 2010. (Wednesday) One day trip to Galax Old Time Fiddler’s Convention with my son. Will be hanging out with some old band pals from FlintHill. Come jam.

August 13, 2010. Fundraiser for WNCW radio at the Don Gibson theater, Shelby, N.C. Darin and Brooke and the Snyders will be there. Old Doc might have to play one or two, but gonna leave this show to all the young’uns. They’re good!

July 22-24 Columbus Ohio. Musicians against Childhood Cancer (MACC) One of the biggest charity events in all of bluegrass. They start on Wednesday; we will arrive on Thursday the 22. website:  www.bluegrassclassic.com

July 30. (Friday) Chattanooga Tennessee. Late lunch book gig (1:30) at Smokin’ Ed’s Barbecue.

July 30 Signal Mountain Opry jam session and book gig. approx 7:00 PM. (just outside Chattanooga)

July 10, 2010. Jackson County Bluegrass Festival. I don’t have a booth at this one, but will be a face in the crowd. I might sit in with one or two bands while I’m there. The promoter is Norman West, and I cleared it with him to sell “The Mandolin Case” while there. This is a laid back festival held at a large green meadow nestled in between two mountain ridges. It’ll be nice and cool up there too. Look for me.

July 1-4, 2010. Red White and Bluegrass. Morganton, N.C.  www.redwhiteandbluegrassfestival.com

Always a top shelf line-up, this festival is held at a large lush green meadow just outside the town of Morganton. Fine country cuisine, homemade ice-cream for dessert, genuine people. One of the best festivals in the Southeast. Look for Darin and Brooke Aldridge, Russell Moore and III Tyme Out, The Grascals, and many more. I recommend you get there early and secure a spot near the big shade tree stage right. At dusk you can hear the cicadas buzz in the trees. They comfort me almost as much as the bands.

I’ll have a booth. As you now know, I’m the Doc with gray hair, a straw hat, and sunglasses. Can’t miss me. I’ll be the only physician bluegrass fiction writer there.

June 26, 2010 12:00 noon EST. WNCW radio interview with Dennis Jones. Internet stream link www.wncw.org
